  • 2024 March 3rd Week XZBRG News Recommendation – NTN Supplies Bearings to “H3 Launch Vehicle”

Supply all bearings for turbo pumps with ultra-high speed rotational performance under cryogenic environment NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) supplies all bearings for turbo pumps of engine in the second H3 Launch Vehicle (H3TF2: Test Flight No.2) launched from Tanegashima Space Center at 9:22:55 (JST) on February 17. In order for a rocket mounted with satellites or other objects to fly, it is necessary to burn liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen at high pressure to inject a large amount of gas. Turbo pumps feed fuel of liquid hydrogen and oxidizer of liquid oxygen oxidizer into the combustion chamber of the engine by rotating inner impeller at high speed. Bearings used in the impeller support ultra-high speed rotation of rocket that is comparable to a jet aircraft with a dmn value*1 of approx. 2.8 million even in cryogenic environment of liquid hydrogen (-253℃) and liquid oxygen (-183℃). General lubricants including oil and grease got frozen at cryogenic temperatures, so the bearings adopt NTN's proprietary solid lubricant that demonstrates lubricating performance even at cryogenic temperatures. In addition, the bearings also use high-strength retainer made from reinforced fiberglass to meet these harsh environment. The engine of the “H3 Launch Vehicle” has a higher driving force than one of the preceding model of “H-IIA Launch Vehicle,” in order to launch satellites of various sizes. Thus, each component is required to have high rigidity, and the bearings for “H3 Launch Vehicle” turbo pumps are also designed to have larger diameters so that they can receive greater preload. As bearings become larger in diameter, the centrifugal force of balls used in bearings becomes larger. For this reason, NTN applies rolling elements (balls) made from ceramics for bearings. It is the first time to apply ceramics balls for commercial rockets produced in Japan. The use of ceramics balls, which is more lightweight than balls made from metal, suppresses the centrifugal force of balls during rotating and achieves high speed rotational performance with dmn value 2.88 million. NTN has been supplying bearings to a number of rockets produced in Japan for many years, including “H-I Launch Vehicle” launched in 1986, “H-II Launch Vehicle” and “H-IIA Launch Vehicle.” As NTN products are highly evaluated in the aviation field as well, NTN has been supplying bearings to major global jet engine manufacturers. NTN will continue to contribute to the development of the aerospace field by developing and providing high quality and high performance products used in space. An indicator that expresses the rotational performance of bearings and it is multiplied bearing pitch circle diameter (mm) by rotational speed (min-1) NTN's history in aerospace field 1986 NTN constructed Japan's first plant exclusively for aerospace bearings (Kuwana Works, in Mie Prefecture) “H-I Launch…

  • 2024 March 2nd Week XZBRG News Recommendation – ABB IE5 SynRM Motor Provides Energy Efficiency and High-Power Output

ABB has launched a new version its IE5 SynRM (synchronous reluctance motor) that combines the benefits of ultra-premium energy efficiency with highly effective liquid cooling. The new design sets a new benchmark for high power output and reliability in a compact footprint. Customers can use IE5 SynRM Liquid-cooled motors to save energy costs and cut emissions in new projects or as a drop-in replacement for less efficient motors. They are ideally suited to a wide range of industries including marine propulsion, rubber and plastics production, and food and beverage. A major advantage of the IE5 SynRM Liquid-cooled motors is that they are much more efficient than the traditional liquid-cooled induction motors in current use that offer significant potential for upgrading with energy-saving technology. Energy efficiency is crucial to optimizing the total cost of ownership (TCO) of an electric motor because the cost of the energy to run it throughout its life accounts for around 97 percent of a motor’s TCO, with the purchase cost accounting for about two percent. IE5 motors have 40 percent lower energy losses than commonly used IE3 motors. This makes the payback time for selecting an IE5 instead of an IE3 motor often less than one year. Reliability is improved by highly effective cooling combined with the cool SynRM rotor and cooling ribs on the bearing assembly that reduces the operating temperature of the bearings. This helps to increase the lifetime of this key component and reduce maintenance needs. The motors are robust, with tight seals to keep out moisture, dirt and dust, and a smooth outer surface to prevent dust build-up. This makes them perfect for demanding applications that require high power density where space is restricted such as marine propulsion systems and thrusters. Furthermore, the motors do not need fans or ventilation, so they do not disturb the surrounding air or release heat into the local environment. This is a major benefit in processes that are impacted by airflow, such as rubber and plastics production, and food and beverage applications like chocolate conche machines. With no fans, the motors also enhance the working environment by reducing noise levels. Stefan Floeck, division president IEC Low Voltage Motors, ABB, says: “ABB pioneered both SynRM technology and liquid cooling for induction motors. Now we have brought them together in our IE5 SynRM Liquid-cooled motor that enables customers to enjoy the benefits of ultra-premium efficiency in an even wider range of applications. It is yet another world-first for this series following the launch of our IE5 SynRM Increased Safety motor for hazardous areas.” (https://www.powertransmission.com) More About XZBRG: Xinzhou Bearing Industrial Inc. is one of the Custom Bearing Manufacturer and world wide Distributors of all types of Bearings, specializing in Ball,…

  • 2024 February 1st Week XZBRG News Recommendation – Bearing Design Considerations for Pumps and Compressors

Loads, life, fits, material, and lubrication must all be evaluated to ensure optimal performance of turbomachinery. Pumps and compressors are ubiquitous in industrial settings. These machines can be found anywhere there is a need to transport liquids or circulate or compress gasses. Manufacturing, chemical processing, food and beverage, construction, mining, oil and gas, agriculture, and power generation industries all employ the use of turbomachinery. Reliability and minimizing downtime are critical in these applications. Rolling bearings are integral to the operation of pumps and compressors and must be able to withstand moderate to heavy loading and harsh operating environments. A wide variety of ball, roller, and needle bearings can be found in these machines; however, this article will focus on the most common type of bearing used, the deep groove ball bearing. Benefits of using deep groove ball bearings include the ability to handle high speeds and carry loads in the radial—and to a lesser extent—axial, directions. To ensure reliable and efficient operation, correct bearing selection is an essential step in the design process of pumps and compressors. It is important to perform an analysis of the components and operating conditions from both a static and dynamic perspective to gain a complete understanding of the loads (both magnitude and direction) the bearings will encounter in the application. Deep groove ball bearings are designed to primarily carry radial loads , but they can also support moderate axial loads as well. In most turbomachinery applications, bearings are subjected to both radial and axial, or combined, loading. Once the loading is understood, the basic bearing life is calculated and then adjusted if necessary. This adjusted life is then compared to the desired design life to determine if the bearing is suitable for the application. Lastly, specifications including shaft and housing fits, bearing material, and lubrication need to be determined. Bearing Load Ratings Manufacturers of ball bearings typically publish load ratings—both static (Cor) and dynamic (Cr)—for each bearing part number they produce. The static load rating, or static capacity, is the amount of load a non-rotating bearing can support without causing permanent deformation to its rings and/or balls. Industry standards specify that a total deformation of 0.0001 of the rolling element diameter (at the center of the most heavily loaded element) is acceptable for most bearing applications. The dynamic load rating, or dynamic capacity, is the amount of constant radial load a rotating bearing can withstand for one million revolutions. While the methods used to calculate load ratings vary from one manufacturer to the next, both the American Bearing Manufacturers Association (ABMA) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) have published equivalent standards related to load ratings and bearing life: ABMA Standard 9—Load Ratings and Fatigue Life…

  • 2024 January 4th Week XZBRG News Recommendation – KTM Duke 390: Overhauling brakes & replacing the rear wheel bearing

Both KTM and Bajaj service centers did not have the new part so had to clean and reuse the old seal. BHPian SunnyBoi recently shared this with other enthusiasts Next up the rear brakes. I went to a Bajaj dealer and I got a seal kit for a pulsar. Pretty much all Bajaj and dukes use the same rear caliper so it should work, hopefully. I popped into the KTM dealership and got a couple of new front caliper bolts since the old ones looked tired. Once I was back home, I remembered I should have gotten a new battery belt as the one on the bike now was close to breaking. Oh well, there is always a next time. First step was taking off the wheel. I had never taken off a rear wheel before - I struggled a LOT with it. I just knew for some reason I'd suck at this and I did not disappoint myself heh. Hopefully, I don't ever have to remove the rear wheel again! Took off the old rotor and ABS ring. This is 9 years of muck hidden behind the rotor. Things weren't so clean on the other side as well. There was a TON of rubber powder? as well as melted rubber. With the wheels done, I focussed back on the caliper. I made sure I removed the pads and extended the piston as much as possible by pumping on the pedal as much as possible. I pulled out the caliper and found the insides pretty clean with only a few black flakes. • 2024 January 2nd Week XZBRG News Recommendation – This is a sign that the motorbike wheel bearing needs to be replaced

This is a sign that the motorbike wheel bearing needs to be replaced, if it collapses first it could be a disaster. As a two-wheeled vehicle user, you should know the symptoms when a wheel bearing needs to be replaced. Wheel bearings that are damaged or worn out if not replaced immediately can cause accidents on the road. Like a motorbike that suddenly feels limp after hitting a hole in the road until the motorbike suddenly shakes at high speed. Symptoms of wheel bearings that have begun to fail are easy to recognize, as stated by Mulyadi Service Advisor Ahass Astra Motor Natar. "The tires feel like they are drifting to the right and left. Especially when cornering, it will be felt more and make the motorbike unstable," said Mulyadi. According to Mulyadi, many bikers still misunderstand front wheel bearing damage and a problem with the steering wheel. "If there is a problem with the steering wheel, generally when you turn the steering wheel or handlebars become heavy or even too light accompanied by a creaking sound in the steering area. "Meanwhile, if the front wheel bearing has a problem, the tire or rim seems to run to the left and right when used," he added when met at Ahass Astra Motor Natar. Mul also added that checking the condition of the bearing or bearing on the front rim of the motorbike is actually quite easy. "When the motorbike is parked, use the middle stand or paddock. Then focus on the front wheels. "Then shake the front rim with both hands. If when you shake it you find that there is looseness in the rim axle (oblak), you can be sure that the front wheel bearing or klaher needs to be replaced," he explained again. Finally, Mul revealed that the wheel bearing damage was apparently caused by several things. "Usually because we often carry heavy loads, we break through damaged roads or we often get hit by floods that almost submerge the wheels," he said. Therefore, driving behavior plays a very important role in maintaining the durability of the bearings in motorbike wheels. Remember, if the wheel bearing has a problem, it should be replaced immediately because it can make the motorbike unstable and dangerous at high speeds. The price of wheel bearings is also relatively cheap, only around Rp. 20-30 thousand depending on the type of motorbike. The J350G’s Fanuc 31i-B control has a 15" touch panel LCD screen and is preloaded with G-MAPS conversational-style programming software. The control also permits easy manual programming via graphic icons, data entry, or conventional methods. To maximize accuracy, the X- and Y-axis of J350G are hand scraped and incorporate needle roller bearings. Left and right slideways are V-F flat shaped, and the Y-axis (spindle head motion) is V-V shaped to maximize positioning accuracy. The machine bed consists of a thick, highly rigid casting supported by three level points, assuring consistent perpendicularity and parallelism. Built-in, custom-designed Heidenhain scales contribute to ±0.0007mm accuracy on the X-, Y- and Z-axis. Table longitudinal travel (X-axis) is 500mm, transverse travel (Y-axis) is 300mm, and quill travel (Z-axis) is 100mm. Maximum distance from the table surface to the grinding spindle nose is 450mm. The machine’s work surface is 700mm x 350mm and permissible table load is 300kg. Table and saddle maximum rapid feed rates are 2,000mm/min and grinding feed rates are variable from 0.1mm/min to 2,000mm/min. The standard high-frequency spindle motor operates from 9,000rpm to 45,000rpm. A variety of spindle motor options include an air-turbine motor with 75,000rpm capability. The machine’s 3m2 (2,220mm x 2,610mm) footprint is 50% smaller than that of the previous model, maximizing floor space efficiency. • 2023 November 5th Week XZBRG News Recommendation – New wireless sensor solution from SKF enables automated machine monitoring in hazardous areas

SKF has expanded its portfolio of Condition Monitoring solutions with the SKF Enlight Collect IMx-1-EX sensor solution. Wireless monitoring of assets helps predict machine failure before it can escalate into a serious problem, such as an unscheduled shutdown. This can deliver multiple benefits, including reduced costs and a more sustainable operation of equipment. The new sensor is part of the well-established SKF Enlight Collect IMx-1 wireless eco-system and certified according to ATEX and IECEx standards for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 classified hazardous areas. The sensor works in tandem with the SKF Enlight Collect IMx-1-EX gateway, which is certified for use in Zone 2. “The IMx-1 wireless solution, in combination with our analytical software, provides state-of-the-art information and insight into the health of rotating assets, now also in hazardous areas, and further expands SKF’s plantwide condition monitoring eco-system,” says Fredrik Larsson, Condition Monitoring Technologies manager at SKF. The new solution has the same form, fit and function as the safe-area rated SKF Enlight Collect IMx-1. All devices have full compatibility, allowing customers to build a network of monitored assets across hazardous and safe areas. Key benefits of the solution include: one wireless condition monitoring eco-system covering both safe and hazardous areas; banishing the need for costly walk-around programmes in hazardous areas, which improve safety for workers and overcomes environmental, health and safety (EHS) concerns; enabling data collection from inaccessible locations; increasing the frequency of data collection for more critical assets. The sensor uses innovative measurement capabilities to provide advanced insights into asset health, including early detection of bearing damage. Like other IMx-1 sensors, they create a ‘mesh network’, enabling them to relay data between one another. This allows data to be routed around obstacles such as pipework – which can block signals for conventional line-of-sight systems. This facility means that data can be sent over greater distances than would otherwise be possible. • 2023 November 1st Week XZBRG News Recommendation – Schaeffler optimizes supply of ceramic components by building its own production facility in Schweinfurt

Ceramic components are used in key growth areas like wind power, rail transport and aerospace Investment strengthens Schweinfurt location; close collaboration with Schaeffler Luxembourg Establishment of ball grinding shop boosts Schaeffler’s flexibility and optimizes value creation chain One hundred and forty years after Friedrich Fischer from Schweinfurt first made mass production of hardened steel balls possible, a ball grinding shop is once again being built at what is now Schaeffler in Schweinfurt. However, the focus is now on ceramic balls rather than steel balls. These ceramic balls are used in high-precision rolling bearings for applications in key growth sectors like wind power, aerospace, and virtually all electrification applications. The blanks for the grinding shop will be made from silicon nitride at the recently acquired production site at Livange in Luxembourg. Ceramic materials offer a high degree of hardness, low specific weight, low friction, and electrical insulation properties. They are used wherever conventional materials cannot provide the necessary performance and stability and where there are special requirements for the electrical shielding of components. The ceramic components produced in Schweinfurt and Livange will be used in many promising growth areas like wind power, railway, aerospace, and medical and electric machinery, and will rapidly gain in importance in the light of the increasing electrification in all industries. Technology of the future at Schweinfurt site In January 2023, Schaeffler completed its acquisition of specialty manufacturer CERASPIN, which has been developing and producing premium ceramic products in Livange for more than 25 years. Following its integration, Schaeffler will then cover almost the entire supply chain in this strategically important area. The capacity to grind ceramic balls represents a further step in the consolidation of activities at the Schweinfurt site, in the ball bearing center at the headquarters of the company’s Industrial division. Dr. Michael Pausch, Head of R&D at Schaeffler Industrial, explains: “With the opening of the new ball grinding shop in Schweinfurt, Schaeffler is taking a great tradition into the modern age. Through his invention, Friedrich Fischer and his company FAG Kugelfischer had for the first time enabled the mechanical mass production of steel balls as far back as 1883. We are now expanding our capacities for the manufacture and processing of high-value ceramic components, allowing us to optimize our entire supply and value creation chain. The new ball grinding shop will allow a future-oriented use of ceramic products in our strategic growth segments.” First ball grinding machine in Schweinfurt 140 years ago For the Schweinfurt site, the establishment of the grinding shop is not just a step into the future but also sheds light on its origins: In 1883, Friedrich Fischer heralded the age of mass production with his grinding machine, which was…

  • 2023 October 4th Week XZBRG News Recommendation – Interact Analysis Examines Geared Motors and Industrial Gears Market

From 2022 to 2023, the global geared motors and industrial gears market is expected to experience a significant slowdown in growth. Interact Analysis' preliminary research shows that global sales of geared motors and industrial gears in 2023 are expected to be around $12.7 billion, a slight decrease compared with 2022. Of the major regions, the Americas market has performed better than expected in the past two years, but in 2023 demand for geared motors from the United States logistics sector has started to drop, while the market for large gearboxes used in heavy-duty industries such as mining remains relatively stable. The size of the European market (in U.S. dollars) has not changed much in 2022, as price increases have supported sales amid a weaker euro, but in 2023 the European manufacturing industry is facing an overall cooling of demand. The Asia-Pacific market for geared motors and industrial gears is expected to see another sluggish year after 2022, mainly affected by the Chinese market. In 2023, we observed lower demand from consumer-related industries and delays in heavy industrial projects, impacting both the geared motor and heavy-duty gear markets. However, export opportunities have attracted widespread attention from Chinese gearbox manufacturers, especially to India, the Middle East and Russia. The final market data by industry and region will be released in Interact Analysis’ ‘Geared Motors and Industrial Gears Market’ report, due later this year. Continued Localization Supply chain and lead time issues were a serious problem last year, so that many gearbox manufacturers have been motivated to accelerate the construction of local facilities in their key regions and build alternative supply chains. In 2023, although localized production seems less urgent as lead times have greatly improved and demand is expected to fall, in the long term we still observed a continued trend towards localization, especially from the leading gearbox suppliers, which have continued to adopt this strategy in their key markets. For example, growth opportunities in emerging markets like Africa, the Middle East, India and Southeast Asia have attracted investments. SEW South Africa expanded its headquarters in 2022, WEG built a motor factory in Turkey last year, NGC Gears broke ground on a new facility in India, Chinese supplier ZD Motor plans to build a factory in Thailand, etc. Some gearbox vendors increased business in India, as their clients move production from China to India, while at the same time some of the largest gearbox vendors continue to expand facilities in China (such as SEW, Bonfiglioli and Nord). All these local investments emphasized benefits such as supply chains closer to the market, shorter delivery times and improved local services. It is reasonable to assume vendors view localized production as a long-term strategy, rather…
